Meet Dr. Freeman
Matthew D. Freeman, M.D. is a fellowship-trained and board-eligible plastic surgeon at The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Denver, Colorado. Using leading-edge techniques, Dr. Freeman strives to provide patients with exceptional results that reflect his extensive training. He knows that today’s patients do their homework: They have seen videos, listened to podcasts, and are active on social media. Dr. Freeman believes that medical paternalism, where the doctor makes all the decisions, is antiquated. Instead, he thinks of his patients as partners on a journey to provide individualized, long-lasting, natural-looking, and consistent results.
Rigorous Education
While completing his bachelor’s degree at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Freeman achieved the highest departmental honors in neuroscience and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. While at Emory, he worked in a research lab investigating novel therapies for severe spinal cord injuries.
Dr. Freeman went on to complete his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he graduated in the top 5 of his class. His achievements garnered him numerous accolades, including Alpha Omega Alpha membership. During this time, Dr. Freeman conducted research studies in reconstructive plastic surgery, focusing on breast reconstruction after cancer.
Following graduation, Dr. Freeman was matched into the highly competitive 6-year integrated plastic surgery residency at New York City Mount Sinai. He completed rotations at five different Mount Sinai locations, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Bronx Veterans’ Affairs, and Elmhurst Hospital.
Advancing Education for Future Generations
While serving as chief resident at New York City Mount Sinai, Dr. Freeman spearheaded numerous educational efforts for junior residents and medical students. During the COVID pandemic, he was the director of a virtual training program to help medical students learn the fundamentals of plastic surgery while in-person instruction was suspended. His dedication to teaching and utilizing the latest technologies enhances his ability to discuss complex medical conditions and procedures with others in a straightforward, down-to-earth way.
Driven to provide the highest quality of care, Dr. Freeman completed a cosmetic surgery fellowship in 2022 with the president of The Aesthetic Society (formerly ASAPS), Dr. Jennifer Walden in Austin, Texas. In addition to learning the intricacies of aesthetic surgery, Dr. Freeman came to value the importance of the patient experience and a holistic approach to aesthetic medicine.

Well-Rounded Talents

He is also experienced with many of the latest technologies in non-invasive medicine and can guide patients in the right direction to accomplish their individual goals.
Early Interest in Becoming a Surgeon
Dr. Freeman was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His parents say he wanted to become a surgeon starting at age 5, frequently disassembling household appliances (much to his parents’ chagrin) and attempting to reassemble them. He became interested in plastic and reconstructive surgery in high school after spending a summer in Guatemala assisting in cleft lip, cleft palate, and burn reconstruction procedures.
Dr. Freeman says, “I was particularly drawn to cosmetic surgery because the patients are reliable, motivated, and in good health—optimal candidates for excellent outcomes. I get no greater satisfaction than seeing my patients’ happiness with their results.”
Relocating to Denver
Dr. Freeman and his family were targeting Denver even before Dr. Freeman finished his residency in New York City. They were drawn to the combination of a bustling city with proximity to the beautiful landscapes and activities offered by the mountains because it would provide the well-rounded quality of life he and his family always desired. Dr. Freeman was thrilled to move to Colorado and join The Center for Cosmetic Surgery as the practice’s goals, morals, and excellence align with his intentions.

They also have a playful mini Bernedoodle named Mardi.
